Our ½ mile waterfall walk takes you along the mighty AuSable River to view High Falls Gorge, a deep crevice created a billion years ago. Native Americans call the Gorge “The Ancient Valley of Foaming Water” due to the series of four breathtaking waterfalls.   • Traverse our nature trail: In addition to our easy access waterfall walk, we offer a 1 mile intermediate level nature trail that ascends 300 feet up the side of Whiteface Mountain. This is a great way to stretch the legs and potentially see some wildlife. The changing leaves and cool air makes for a beautiful hike.
  • Admire one of New York’s largest natural potholes: Natural potholes are formed by currents in the river to create a hole in an exposed rock layer. High Falls Gorge has several unique potholes to view along the walk including our Master Pothole which is one of the largest in New York.
  • Touch one of the oldest rocks in the world: Over 1.5 billion years old, our Anorthosite boulder is the base horizontal layer for not only the Gorge but the entire high peaks region of the Adirondacks. It is the same type of base rock that was found on the moon.
  • Experience raging waterfalls: High Falls Gorge offers visitors stunning views of 4 waterfalls traveling over 700 feet horizontally. The natural beauty of these waterfalls combined with the brilliant hues of the fall foliage makes for perfect photo opportunities for the family.
